This print is based on data from the 2005 Economic Census and was produced with the help of science correspondent Dave Allen. The (altered) ellipses in this print are representative of data regarding the percentage of elderly people, people who drive alone to work, property crime and livestock in each county in the United States. These variables were randomly paired to create ellipses, then plotted out geographically. I manipulated the resulting imagery to produced this print.
The variables at the heart of this print are printed in a faint (almost imperceptible) gray alongside the image area.
Printed Letterpress from polymer plates, linoleum and metal type in an edition of 30 on Johannot paper.
